E-Pics is the premium image management solution developed by the ETH-Library for customers inside ETH. It defines a state-of-the-art metadata scheme that can be used over distributed collections of images.
From 2004-2008, I was responsible for the development and technical operation of this solution. This included a major redesign of the web application in 2008 that was focused on interaction design aspects learned in a usability workshop we performed together with Christian Hauri. Currently, over 20 seperate collections of totally over 300’000 images are managed within E-Pics.
In 2008, I developed a Java-based synchronization add-on for the Cumulus Software, which exports images from the ETH image archive to a Creative Commons format. This export is then also used to make images available using Google Image Search (in collaboration with Google Inc).
